1 Year Checkup

Kaia had her 1 year checkup today. The doctor said she's doing great! She weighed 23 lbs 3 oz (in the 80th percentile) and was 29 3/4" (in the 75th percentile). She behaved very well and was excited to get a book with pictures of babies out of the deal. The pediatricians do a neat program where once your child turns 6 months they get a book at every checkup to encourage reading with your child. The poor girl had to get 3 shots, which was not too fun. And that means the next couple days probably won't be too fun either, but we're glad she's doing well and is healthy!

State Fair!

We went to the State Fair yesterday and had a great time! The weather was absolutely gorgeous and it wasn't as packed as we expected. Kaia loved the animals! She loves her farm animals books and was so excited to see them up close! Everything went great despite me leaving Kaia's shoes in the car and Josh having to run back and get them (what a good guy).

Holding onto the llama...she's not too sure about this-all she wants to do is pet him.

Memorable Moments

A few memorable moments from this past week...
*Kaia had the biggest dirty diaper while we were out running errands (which she never does), and I had no wipes or diapers (which I always have). Luckily we were at Target so I had to buy new wipes and diapers and then have the person at the customer service desk watch my cart while I went and changed her.

*Kaia learned how to give "high-fives," so she's been giving them to everyone, including her dolly.

*We were in the grocery store and Kaia got so excited going down the cereal aisle. She started bouncing up and down and waving her hands. I couldn't figure out what she was so excited about until she started to say "roar." Then I realized she saw Tony the Tiger on the Frosted Flakes box. She continued to roar like a tiger down the next 2 aisles. This was so funny because I always do animal sounds with her and she has a book with a tiger in it, but we don't do a tiger sound very often. But somehow she really picked up on that sound.

Celebration Week!

This week is Celebration Week for our family! Kaia had her 1st birthday last Thursday, our 2nd Anniversary is today, and my (Kaitlyn's) birthday is Wednesday. So we are very busy! But I thought I'd post a picture from our wedding and a video of some of Kaia's birthday pictures. They're from her party with Swaims, her actual birthday day, and her party at Grandma and Grandpa Keller's. Enjoy!

Officially a Walker!

Kaia Mae is now a walking machine. She has been working on it pretty steadily the past couple weeks. This weekend she started getting more confident and would walk from an object to one of us or from one of us to an object if we asked her to. But yesterday she finally decided for herself she wanted to walk around. We had her birthday party with the Swaims last night and I guess she decided the Birthday Princess needed to walk at her own party. There was no stopping her- she was all over the house! I guess it'll finally be time for baby gates. We're very excited! She's very good-I'm surprised. She can walk pretty long distances without falling and if she falls she gets right back up and keeps going. She can even turn around pretty easily. With the way she moves, I'm sure it won't be long before she's just running everywhere!

Kaia will be 1 tomorrow! It's so exciting! We had her bday party with the Swaims last night and were so glad both grandmas could come too. She had a great time opening gifts and loves everything she got! She wasn't too sure about the cake and mostly just played with the icing. I'll post pictures after her other party on Saturday.

Besides walking, Kaia's busy expressing herself. She shakes her head no when she doesn't want something and screams if something she wants gets taken away. I wasn't ready for that to start already. She can throw a mean temper tantrum, but it usually doesn't last long. She loves to climb, especially at the park. She will climb up the slide and then turn around and sit on her bottom to come back down, or just slide down on her tummy. She'll only eat big girl food, and now only takes bottles twice a day-at naptime and bedtime. We've moved her to 1 nap a day in the afternoon and this has helped her sleep at night so much better. Instead of two 1/2 hour naps and up twice at night she's taking one 1 1/2 hour nap in the afternoon and sleeping all night. If she does wake up at night she's able to get herself back to sleep. This makes a much happier baby and mommy. She's doing well and is growing so quickly. We just had her 1 year pictures taken and were surprised to see how much she looks like a little girl and no longer like a baby. We're excited for all the next year brings!

1 Week!

Our little Maisy just has 1 week until her 1st Birthday! Unbelievable how fast the time flies! It's so strange to think that this time last year we were waiting so anxiously for her to come and now it seems like she's been with us forever. Feeling a little nostalgic, I decided to copy a post from this time last year to remember just what that felt like.

No Baby Yet...
Baby Swaim still has yet to make his or her appearance. The time seems to be crawling by. By Tuesday we started to go stir crazy and decided to start making the most of our time. Walking around the mall wasn't cutting it and there's only so much you can buy when you don't know what you're having. So we've spent the last 3 days going to the zoo, a baseball game, and to the first day of the state fair. I think I've walked at least 5 miles in the past 3 days, but still no contractions. At least none that are strong enough to bring on active labor. So we'll continue to wait and try to rack our brains for more things to keep our minds off of waiting! This is harder than being a little kid and waiting for Christmas! Hopefully we'll have good news for you soon!
